MARTEN SABLE – SHADED VARIETY

COLOUR: Body colour to be a grey-brown tone.

Back, face, head, legs & feet to be masked by a darker shade than the body.

The masking is a very dark sepia (blackish brown) colour that extends along the length of the back to shade lighter on the flanks with the ticking. Undercolour must be paler than top colour with good examples showing a darker tip.

MARKINGS: Sides including rump to be thickly laced with long white ticking. The nostril area, jowl, chest & belly should be white. The belly should be white, with minimal darker undercolour showing. There should be a clear band of top colour across the throat. White eye circles should be clearly defined & clearly visible. On the forehead beside each ear there should be a clear white spot. The belly colour should be only just visible when viewed from the side.

FEET: Colour same as masking colour on the outside & the inside of each leg should show white.

Ticked feet ok. Pads dark sepia.

EYES: Large, bold & ruby.

EARS: Dark sepia, rose petal shaped, large & drooping. Hairs inside of ears to be white.

NOTES

Lack of grooming on the flanks is permissible given that grooming may remove the desirable long white ticking.

They must be viewed in good light and from the side not just facing you to see shading on the flanks.

Young cavies are heavily marked and have grizzled faces and should not be penalised as this will fade as the cavy masks up.

DISQUALIFICATIONS: Solid patches of white that exceed the size of a £1 coin and odd coloured toenails.
